3/2/2024 0 Comments Dude perfect world recordsThis book is one that has a lot going on in the page illustrations from Alan Brown. Good Night, Dude Perfect is a fun Bedtime book aimed at ages four to eight. Cory Cotton, Coby Cotton, Cody Jones Garrett Hilbert, and Tyler Toney are the five friends who are all from Texas. If not, Dude Perfect is a group of five friends who initially made basketball trick shots for fun. If you are looking at this book, then you may be already familiar with Dude Perfect. But either way, we should know beforehand. It's fine for those who want that in their children's books. If I'm picking up a children's book, I'm not expecting to have 'god' thrown in my face. It's unfortunate that a secular version of this book doesn't exist and even more unfortunate that the marketing team decided to leave out extremely important information in its summarization. Some of the rhymes were nice, but that's about it. I don't think they do a great job of it, because the message is off and there's a bit too much focus on fame. It's nothing phenomenal as far as illustrations go, though I do deeply appreciate the idea of taking an old children's theme and applying it to sports lovers. The fact that there is no mention of the religiosity in the summary for this book is unfair to every single person who does not follow or believe in that religion and honestly would have left me feeling tricked into purchasing the book had I done so without reading the sample. I do think it's utterly disingenuous to not be clear with your descriptions when selling any content, but especially children's content. It's fortunate, for me, that I chose to read the sample on Amazon before considering purchasing this book as I was actually pretty excited about the general premise that's being presented but would have been extremely annoyed and upset with the religious inclusion had I actually spent money on it. If religion is not mentioned in the channel, however, leaving that information out is a problem. I still think it's a bit presumptuously ridiculous to assume everyone interested in potentially reading this to their children would also have seen the channel. If it is that my criticism of the book does exist in the channel I can understand the book's oversight to a certain extent. What I can say, however, is that I find it thoroughly irritating that books targeted toward children while also containing clear references to religion do not include that bit of information in the summary. I am not actually familiar with Dude Perfect and his youtube channel, so as I review this I cannot say whether my criticism of this book is something that exists within the channel itself. I received an ARC of this book via the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review shared here. We still love Dude Perfect but I can’t see myself purchasing this book for our family or as a gift. I personally didn’t care for the illustrations and font used as well. I found the text to be overly wordy for the rhyming to be read smoothly. The book mimics Goodnight Moon in its rhyming melody. I think the book is too simple for my 7 year old. That being said, this book is written for 4- 8 year olds. Impressions: My boys, 7 and 11 years old, love Dude Perfect. Tonight, take a break with Dude Perfect as you look forward to more action tomorrow.
